Pensions

How and when can you apply for a pension?

There is no particular pension age in the general pension system in Sweden. A person is entitled to draw a pension from the age of 61 and it can be postponed as long as a person wishes.

It is quite possible to draw a pension and continue to work and make more contributions to the pension.
The guarantee pension cannot be drawn before the age of 65. An application must be made when it is time to draw a pension. If you live in Sweden it is appropriate to submit an application to the Swedish Pension Agency [Pensionsmyndigheten] 2-3 months before you would like to draw your pension. The pension cannot be paid retroactively for the time before the application month.
